What should be the colour of my curtains in the living room if my sofa is grey and the floor also?8/3/2020 It’s hard to give a full answer to this as there are so many other variables to consider. Especially the wall colour as this, together with the floor are the more prominent features in the room. However here are some ideas/suggestions based on the information you have given. With the sofa and floor already being grey I would steer clear of a matching grey colour. As for curtains in general I would look at patternless neutral options as they will be able to complement other elements changing in the room like new furniture, etc. Cream, off-white or beige colours are always a safe choice. They look fresh and go with pretty much everything. they remain very versatile and remain current. If you prefer a little more colour in them there are still many options. Yet again, keeping them plain keeps them neutral in the room. If you want to match them to elements within your space look at the colour in couch cushions, wallpapers, wall colour, rug colours etc and match them to those. Keeping in mind that if you change those and want to keep the curtains at a later stage they may mismatch. All images from Pinterest.com

There are a lot of options if you are considering painting a bedroom grey. Like any colour there is a vast range of shades within the grey. When looking at the grey options I would also look at existing furniture and or new furniture going into the bedroom and see if there is a colour that would suit as an undertone in the grey to match it to the over all look. Pure grey (mixing white and black) can be quite harsh and perhaps a little uninviting to use in a bedroom. It can be rather cold and bland. However when you add an undertone to the grey it gives the colour depth, personality and you can do amazing things with it to create a warm and inviting vibe. If you prefer a cooler grey then undertones like blue and purple could be interesting for you, while beiges, reds and orange undertones will give a warmer grey. Painting a dresser can be so much fun, and there is no ‘best’ colour to use. It all depends on your taste, ideas and how you’d like to have the dresser look in the over all space once it is finished. If you prefer the dresser to blend with the rest of the decor then look around the room at other furniture, wall colour, carpet, etc and select a colour that either matches with those or select a colour that is slightly different yet fits with the over all look. Neutral colour like whites, greys, beiges, etc will look great in most settings so choosing within that range is usually safe. However there are no rules, so why not look at perhaps making the desser a stand out, feature, piece? Add bold colours, pattern, texture. It will not only look great, but can add a little fun and interest to the room aswell. Is there a best colour to paint a dresser? Any colour that you pick will be the best colour as it will, hopefully, transform the piece into a dresser you’ll love.
Using a bright blue in a living room is a great way to liven up the space and can be paired with several colours to create a comfortable space. If the blue is the accent wall colour in the room I would pair it with a neutral to allow the blue to shine. Classically it is often paired with white. This creates a clean and sharp look. However depending on the vibrancy of the blue is can also be a little hard on the eyes as they are both very bright. Thus pairing it with a light neutral wont take away from the blue intensity however it will soften the overall look and bring a bit of coziness to the room. Think of off-whites, light greys, sand colours etc. Or even pairing it with a very light blue. Now, if the main colour in the room is bright blue and you are looking for a colour to add to the room as the accent wall there are a lot of options too. Personally I would look at adding a darker colour to the room. Again, as with the light neutrals, it will balance the overall look while adding interest. For ‘safe’ options, look at dark blue, with perhaps a grey undertone to add a bit of neutral. Or vice versa a dark grey with a blue undertone. But if you’d like something perhaps a little more adventurous they look at oranges, yellows or pinks. It can be very playful and fun when added in the right tone. All images from Pinterest.com
Yes, grey goes very well with brown furniture. They are both neutral colours and thus work well in multiple combination. Layering different tones and shades of grey and brown together can create a strong, calming and interesting interior. However, as they are both neutral and strong colours they can create quite a masculine look. Adding pattern, different materials and/or hints of other colours can help soften the look and give it a cozier feel. There are many colours you can add to achieve the overall look that suits you. For instance adding some yellow freshens up the over all look and brings a lovely young element to the space. Blues add a little colour while keeping the overall feel calm and cozy Pink, again, brings a little funk, feminine, young edge. It breaks the masculine vibe while keeping the calm and sophisticated atmosphere. In short, yes grey goes very well with brown furniture, however I would suggest to add a little life into the room to break the look a little. All images from Pinterest.com
Red in general is a real uplifting, lively colour. by nature the colour stimulates senses thus it is not a relaxing colour. Depending on what kind of vibe you are looking to create in the bedroom I would use red paint in a sparing way. For instance as a feature wall. It can definitely work if you really want to use red. For the most part I would stay away from using too much red in a bedroom for the simple reason that this is the space you want to relax in and get a good nights sleep. To create this feeling I would look at using blues, greens, neutrals and (certain) purples. These colours surround you with calmness, coziness and you will be able to relax easier with these colours. These are just a few examples of a calmer decor. All images from Pinterest.com
Both grey and blue categorise as cold colours and can also both be seen as neutral colours. If this is the look you are going for and want to continue with this vibe here are some ideas. Tans, browns, and other neutrals bring a little interest while keeping within the relaxed, muted tones. moss and darker greens are great as well. They add a new, warmer colour while again, keeping within the vibe. Now, if you’d like to introduce a more vibrant and perhaps eye catching colour look at options like pinks, purples, vibrant greens and yellows. They can transform the space immediately. These are all solid colours suggested, however adding pattern to a room is also a great way to add interest without necessarily introducing one or any colour at all. Adding several colours and layering that with pattern is also a great way to accent the grey and blue already present withing the space. All images from pinterest.com
When using gold and brown in interiors I would suggest looking at complementary colours that lighten the overall feel. Brown can be quite a heavy colour to use in interiors so finding a colour that offsets that can help define and brighten the room. Using colours like beige, cream, orange and most greys can make the overall decor look quite dark and tiring when combining with brown. However there are lots of colours that look amazing when combined with brown and gold, allowing all colours to shine on their own. For instance, pink in a great colour to use with brown as it breaks the harshness of the brown adding a little sweetness to it. Combining brown and gold with white makes a lovely crisp and stylish look. It gives a space sophistication while allowing room for you to add personal elements. As brown is a nuetral, natural colour it always works well with greens. Bringing that outdoorsy, natural feel into the home. Brown and gold are both warm colours, so balancing that with a cooler colour like blue can give a room great interest and create a perfect space to be in. These are only a few ideas of course and there are many more combinations possible. Brown is both an easy and tricky colour to match depending on the feel you are trying to create. The colour itself goes with almost everything, being a neutral colour. However combining the colour with other neutrals can make a space feel just that, neutral and lacking depth. Combining it with colours like pink, green or blue takes the brown away from its neutral status and gives it a place to stand as it’s own feature colour. All images from Pinterest.com
Using dark colours to decorate an entire house is quite daring and it can look stunning as well. If this is the way you would like to go I suggest taking the leap and embrace the strong, dark colours. I do however see how you can be afraid it will feel like a cave if all there are are dark colours. This is where you look at balancing the dark with textures, lighting and clever use of lighter pockets. For instance keeping ceilings especially in kitchens and hallways white will help distribute light thus alleviating the ‘cave’ feeling. In other rooms like a snug, or bedroom it can be an idea to experiment painting all the walls and ceiling the same colour as these are spaces you want to feel comfortable and cozy in, thus creating a warm, closed in space may be the way to go here. Incorporating wallpaper into a dark colour scheme works wonders as well as within the print you introduce some depth and lighter tones to soften the dark look. Another way to keep the spaces feel airy is keeping the doors, skirting boards and architraves light. Although I love blending them into the colour scheme (especially a darker scheme) it is a practical way to keep the colour on the walls and keeping the rooms defined. Making the best of natural and artificial light is another great way to soften the look and make the spaces feel lovely and cozy in those winter nights! Introducing a good lighting plan will help highlight corners, features etc within a room. Making sure there are different levels of lighting so you can create the exact mood you are looking for. Having main (ceiling) lighting is practical and should light the room evenly and clearly. Adding mood lighting and task lighting on top of that gives you the option to turn off the main lighting and create different moods within the room. As for natural lighting, to make the most of it keep the windows as open and unobstructed as possible, making sure curtains frame the windows and don’t hang in front of them is key. Use all the natural light you can get and it will allow you to go even darker on the walls and interior. Make use of rugs, cushions, furniture, accessories, etc to bring depth and interest to the spaces. Embrace the darker tones, don’t be afraid to use them and don’t hold back. A bedroom is the place you want to relax in at the end of the day. A space that feels both welcoming and relaxing. Choosing the right way to decorate this in a way for you to find restful can be a challenge. So keeping a few simple guidelines can be quite helpful. The different colours are divided in several categories to help find the most suitable ones for each project. Relaxing and calming colours include: blue, green, neutrals and greys Lively colours include, yellow, red and orange. Now, these are only guidelines, it doesn’t mean you have to keep to these. However it does show which category might work best when wanting to add colour to a project. So is orange a good colour for a bedroom? Well, using orange as an accent colour within a bedroom does work. Using it as the main colour for walls, furnishings ect might be too overwhelming and you may find it hard to relax in such a space. That said orange is a very warming colour, so adding hints of this to a relaxing atmosphere can add that little bit of interest and coziness. Orange works very well with teals, blues and greens, so adding little elements to a more neutral background can provide that little fun and freshness while keeping the overall feeling calm and tranquil.
